About Silagen Scar Treatments
Silagen scar treatments can address several different types of hypertrophic scars–raised scars caused by increased production of collagen in your skin after an injury:
- Immature: If your scar is red and slightly raised, we can examine your skin to determine the best scar prevention method.
- Linear: These scars are typically red, raised, and itchy. Some patients receive Silagen gel or sheets combined with microneedling.
- Widespread Burn: These scars are typically red and raised. We can apply silicone sheets and recommend additional skin rejuvenation treatments.
Silagen is a customizable therapy that can address scars on multiple areas of the body, including:
- Umbilical Scars
- Surgical Scars
- Acne Scars
- Injury-Related Trauma
Silagen Sheets
Silagen sheets are made of 100% medical-grade silicones that help your scars fade into your skin’s natural tone. We can adjust the size of the sheets to fit your scar by trimming them; they come in 12 different shapes and sizes to address different kinds of scars. The sheets help address scar contraction, reducing long-term scarring for smoother skin and a more even tone. They reduce water loss during the skin’s healing process to help it stay moisturized. (1) The medical-grade silicone is flexible and durable for comfort. You can reuse each sheet for up to 1 month, and they come with a storage tray to help you keep them clean during your treatment.
Silagen Gel
With a quick-drying, non-comedogenic gel, we can address scars on sensitive skin. The silicone gel formula can help reduce skin irritation in sensitive skin or prone to breakouts. The Silagen gel also contains SPF 30+ to help protect your skin from sun damage while your scars heal. Silagen gels are not formulated with chemical sunscreens, but the SPF can help protect new scars from pigmentation. The soft, smooth formula does not stick to the skin, making it more comfortable than other scar formulas.
Acne Scar and Spot Corrector
The Silagen acne scar and spot corrector is an innovative therapy that can help you diminish the appearance of scarring and hyperpigmentation for a smoother complexion. It is best for mild to moderate acne scars, and the formula brightens the skin with Retex-5™ Technology, which contains several key ingredients:
- Medical grade silicone: We can normalize your skin’s collagen production to prevent excess scar tissue.
- Licorice root extract: We can address melanin production and inflammation contributing to scar formation.
- Bakuchiol: We can improve cell turnover with an antioxidant that mimics retinol.
- Vitamin C & E: Vitamins help the formula penetrate the skin barrier to target deep scars.
- Azelaic Acid 10%: We can reduce excess melanin production with a well-tolerated anti-oxidant.
The powerful formula can address acne scars without combining other therapies, such as moisturizers or exfoliators, while your scars heal. It is non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. If you receive microneedling to enhance your skin, you can use Silagen in between treatments.
Benefits
There are several benefits to Silagen scar treatments, including:
- Noninvasive treatment: The treatment does not require excising scar tissue to help your body heal.
- Lasting results: If you take good care of your skin and use the treatment consistently, you can enjoy lasting results.
- Gentle scar therapy: The topical therapy helps your skin repair itself over time and accelerates the natural healing process.
- Targeted treatment: Silagen spot correctors allow us to address different areas of the skin while preserving the surrounding tissue.
Candidates
Suitable candidates for scar treatments want to prevent scarring or help their skin heal after an injury or surgery. Silagen can help reduce the appearance of older scars or help prevent the formation of new ones. You are likely a good candidate if you recently had surgery because we can help your skin heal properly. However, if you have an allergy to silicone, you are likely not the best candidate for the treatment.
Consultation
During your consultation, we will examine your skin to determine the best scar treatment for your needs based on the severity of your scar and its location. Please come prepared to share your medical history, medications, and lifestyle to help us determine your best treatment plan. We can also recommend additional skin rejuvenation treatments to help you enhance your skin.

Treatment Process

Scar treatments can take several weeks to months because it takes time for your skin to repair itself. You must avoid sun exposure throughout your treatment to prevent skin damage that could affect your results. You must also apply Silagen to clean your skin, whether using the cream or sheets. Avoid applying any lotion, skin care products, or creams to your skin before using Silagen.
You will need to use the product consistently for several months. Patients typically need to use the treatment for 2-3 months for the best results. We can also recommend a Silagen foaming cleanser to help you prepare your skin for adhesive silicone products, making the formula more effective. If you receive Silagen sheets, you must take good care of your skin and keep it clean to prevent skin irritation (dermatitis). (2)
After Your Treatment
After your treatment, you can enjoy smoother skin and a more even skin tone. Since the treatments can help your skin repair itself after injuries and surgical procedures, you can enjoy long-lasting results if you follow your treatment instructions and use Silagen consistently.
