Candidates for Breast Augmentation
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Lake Oswego, Portland, OR and Woodburn, OR
Most women are pleased with the results of their breast augmentation surgery, but this type of procedure isn’t for everyone. Before you make an appointment, there are many things to consider. Certain women have current breast shapes or sizes that make achieving a successful, natural-looking result difficult. In most cases, the surgeon is able to craft effective surgery options for patients at her office in Lake Oswego. Breast augmentation is a great choice for many women.

The Ideal Candidate
There is no perfect candidate for breast enhancement surgery. Instead, each woman will have certain positives and negatives going into the procedure. During your initial consultation at the Lake Oswego office, Dr. Lopez will be able to provide you with a personalized assessment. Good candidates are generally healthy individuals who:
- Do not smoke, or who are able to quit smoking at least two weeks before the surgery.
- Engage in moderate exercise and avoid unhealthful eating habits.
- Have moderate to high self esteem, and do not see their surgery as a solution to low self esteem.
- Have reasonable expectations about the outcome of their surgery and are not in search of a “perfect” body.
Eligibility for Breast Augmentation
Patients with severe cases of ptosis may not be good candidates for breast augmentation in Lake Oswego. Ptosis is a medical term referring to any body part that sags or droops. Ptosis is measured on a five-point scale. Dr. Lopez will assess each patient’s level of ptosis and make recommendations based on individual needs. In more advanced cases of breast drooping, patients may need a breast lift in Lake Oswego in addition to breast augmentation to achieve their ideal breast appearance.
Grade 0
With the patient standing in an upright position, the skin of the breast does not touch the skin of the chest wall. The shape of the breast imposes no limitations on augmentation options.
Grade I
In an upright position, the skin of the breast does touch the skin of the chest wall, and the nipple and areola are completely above the inframammary fold (the place underneath the breast where the skin of the breast joins to the skin by the ribs). In this situation, the fold can be lowered for the surgery.
Grade II
In an upright position, the skin of the breast touches the skin of the chest wall, and a portion of the nipple and areola is below the inframammary fold. As with Grade I, the fold can be lowered to accommodate the augmented breast.
Grade III
In an upright position, the skin of the breast touches the skin of the chest wall and a portion of the nipple and areola is above the inframammary fold. The fold generally can be lowered for augmentation.
Grade IV
In an upright position, the skin of the breast rests against the skin of the chest wall, and the entire nipple/areola is below the inframammary fold. Generally, this is not a good situation for breast augmentation; instead, mastopexy is often recommended to reconstruct the severely drooping breast.
At the Aesthetic Laser Center, we are here to help you make the best choices for breast augmentation surgery based on your goals and objectives.
